Sister to Father Jack Gallagher, Rose Mary Gallagher was involved with many early credit unions, including Lidcombe Credit Union (established 1952); the Australian Antigonish Credit Union Cooperative Development Limited; Housewives United Buyers; Yass Credit Union; Credit Union Bulletin and the Telephone Officers’ Credit Union.
Rose Mary Gallagher was born in 1917. She left school at 15 and went to work at the GPO, in the telephone department as a telephonist. He brother Father Jack Gallagher was involved in the credit union movement in the early 1950s as a way of helping low income families. He influence Rose Mary in her strong interest and involvement with credit unions.
Rose Mary edited the Credit Union Bulletin during the 1950s. The bulletin was issued by the Credit Union Co-operative development Limited, which was an Antigonish educational and promotional body started by Father Gallagher.
Rose Mary Gallagher provided oral history interviews for the credit union movement in 1989 and 1993 when she was interviewed by Richard Raxworthy.
