Maggie Niven studied singing at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and worked for 7 years for JC Williamsons and the Tate Brothers promoting performing arts. In 1978 she was appointed secretary to Kevin Murray at the Australian Federation of Credit Union Leagues and subsequently editor for more than five years of the Australian Credit Union Magazine.

She managed all AFCUL Conventions, instituted the Australian Credit Union Marketing Awards, assisted the inaugural working group of the Institute of Credit Union Directors and was the Executive Officer of the Australian Foundation for International Credit Union Development. She returned to the music business in 1990.

Maggie Niven provided an oral history interview for the credit union movement in 1991 when she was interviewed by Richard Raxworthy.
